Young Person’s Housing Support Workers

Housing support workers play a vital role in helping young people transition to independent living.

Often managing a caseload of up to four individuals, they conduct regular key working sessions to co-produce SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound) support and safety plans. These plans are designed to track progress and ensure meaningful outcomes for the young people they support.

A core responsibility of housing support workers is to assess the needs of young people to identify appropriate move-on accommodation. This includes producing detailed risk assessments and management plans, as well as evaluating referrals to ensure the project admits suitable candidates. When new residents arrive, workers provide a safe, welcoming environment by introducing them to the accommodation and sharing essential information about the building and local services.

They collaborate with social workers to explore options for young people to return home, where appropriate, or help them transition to supported, shared, or self-contained housing.
Additional responsibilities include supporting residents with benefit entitlements, managing rent and service charges, and organising activities to prepare young people for independence. Housing support workers also assist with accessing education, work, or training opportunities and partner with internal teams and external agencies to meet the diverse needs of their clients. Furthermore, they maintain a high standard of health and safety to ensure a secure living environment for all residents.
