Housing Options Advisors play a crucial role in supporting individuals and families facing housing challenges, helping them find stability and security in times of need. In this role, you’ll provide expert advice to prevent homelessness, assist with housing applications, and guide people through the complexities of housing laws and regulations. Whether interviewing those in crisis, assessing entitlements, or recommending housing options, your work will make a tangible difference in people’s lives.

A key part of your role will involve engaging directly with individuals at risk of homelessness, identifying practical solutions to their challenges, and providing advice to private sector tenants and those seeking alternative housing options. You’ll also manage a caseload of cases, from initial contact and assessment through to decisions and follow-up assistance, ensuring each is handled efficiently and compassionately. Collaborating with other agencies and conducting home visits, you’ll help vulnerable customers navigate their housing needs while advocating on their behalf.

This role requires not only a solid understanding of housing laws, such as the Housing Act 1996 (amended by the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017), but also the ability to apply them with empathy and professionalism. You’ll need excellent communication and networking skills to build relationships with customers and partner agencies, alongside a proactive approach to problem-solving and strong organizational abilities.
