As an Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP) Coordinator, you’ll be at the heart of ensuring children and young people with special educational needs (SEND) get the support they need to thrive.
Whether it’s leading the statutory assessment process, liaising with schools, parents, and carers, or ensuring every plan reflects the unique journey of a young person, this role is all about making a tangible impact.
The go-to person for families, schools, and other professionals.
You’ll be the go-to person for families, schools, and other professionals, guiding them through the EHCP process with expertise and care.
You’ll manage statutory assessments, keeping everything on track and fully compliant with legal requirements. Each plan you oversee will be reviewed and updated regularly to reflect a young person’s growth and evolving needs. Alongside this, you’ll be the central point of contact, providing schools, parents, and carers with advice, reassurance, and practical solutions. From facilitating communication to resolving conflicts, you’ll ensure everyone is on the same page.
Case management is a big part of the role, so you’ll need to stay organized, juggling multiple cases while keeping meticulous records. Your attention to detail will shine when preparing reports or ensuring compliance with data protection and local authority regulations. You might also lead training sessions, empowering schools and other agencies with best practices for EHCP processes.
A background in education, social work, or special education is helpful, but what really matters is your understanding of SEND and the legal framework around EHCPs. Excellent communication skills are a must—you’ll need to break down complex processes into clear, manageable steps for families and professionals alike. Empathy, patience, and the ability to build trust are key qualities, along with top-notch time-management and organizational skills to handle multiple deadlines.
This is more than just a job—it’s a chance to make a real difference. Your efforts as an EHCP Coordinator will directly impact the lives of children and young people, helping them access the tailored support they need to reach their potential. Whether you’re guiding families through challenging processes or working with a team of dedicated professionals, you’ll be part of something truly meaningful.
With opportunities for career growth, ongoing training, and flexible working arrangements, this role also offers a supportive environment for your own development. As an EHCP Coordinator, you’ll not only shape brighter futures for others but also find immense personal reward in the process.
